When is SENSORY CHEFS?

Each session of this group includes two essential elements: Children participate in a weekly in-person cooking group; and Parents participate in a weekly Zoom workshop. Most sessions of this group take place over 4 consecutive weeks. During the parent workshops, we will:

  1. Explore the factors impacting picky eating and other difficult mealtime behaviors

  2. Integrate tools and strategies into your family’s routine

  3. Understand terms such as food selectivity, food chaining, and the SOS approach

Is my child the right fit for SENSORY CHEFS?

This group was created with "picky eaters" - ages 5 to 10 years old - in mind. If your child is at risk for aspirating when they eat, then we will refer you to the appropriate provider as this is outside the scope of this group. We can accommodate most food allergies and dietary restrictions in our group.

Where is SENSORY CHEFS?

The weekly cooking group takes place at our OT therapy studio located at 1137 S Point View Street in Los Angeles. Because we use both indoor and outdoor spaces, please dress for the weather, and plan to get messy. We strongly encourage wearing socks (for inside) and closed-toed shoes (for outside). Please send your child with sunscreen already applied. The parent workshops occurs via Zoom.

How many kids are in a SENSORY CHEFS?

Groups are limited to 6 to 8 children. This helps ensure at least a 2:1 student-to-staff ratio. That way your child receives individualized attention while reaping the benefits of an exciting group experience.

Can cooking actually be fun for my picky eater?

Yes, it’s really fun! We use sensory tools to learn about nutrition, sensory processing, and emotional regulation - all to support mealtime success.

Does my child need to be in OT to benefit?

No way! These groups are designed both for children with identified needs and those who are looking for a fun way to strengthen skills. Our groups are thoughtfully designed to meet and celebrate our different strengths, interests, and abilities.

Who leads SENSORY CHEFS?

All groups are led by a pediatric occupational therapist along with a Masters-level occupational therapy student and a team of talented assistants. This team approach to learning ensures individualized attention with a 2:1 ratio. Zoom sessions are led by 1-2 occupational therapists with an emphasis on picky eating and parent education.

How do you track progress during SENSORY CHEFS?

Each child will be briefly screened at the beginning and end of the program. We will provide some strategies and games to ensure carryover and success at school.

How much does SENSORY CHEFS cost?

This group costs $900. Because the group experience is an important part of the group, we cannot offer a daily rate. Your registration for the group is complete when payment is made by credit card via our client portal. Your payment includes a $100 non-refundable deposit per group

Can I get a superbill for insurance?

We are not in-network for health insurance. For children who qualify, a superbill will be provided for you to submit to PPO insurance plans. Please reach out to your insurance to find out about reimbursement for OT. This group is billed under a group code (CPT 97150-GO), and an ICD-10 may be assigned when appropriate, based on your child's strengths and challenges. Superbills are issued monthly, after the session. When you register your child for the group, please let us know if you would like to receive a superbill.
